The Aleks Effect
Share

This is dedicated to Miss Aleksandra Chugalj - an amazing person, friend and colleague of mine. It's written on the occasion of her last day at work. This article is based on a true event and how that event has helped me :)
One time, in my early amature days of working at Carson, a client complained that the reply I send wasn't polite and helpful. He complained to our customer support about this and Aleks was the one who reached out to me.

She mentioned the task/client, and mentioned the detail of the complain. After that, instead of being strict and giving me strict instructions that this shouldn't happen again (which I deserved), she kindly asked if every thing was ok with me, and genuinely was concerned if something was bothering me or if any trouble has occurred that lead/caused this situation, because the Sumit she knew wouldn't send unpolite messages to client (or anyone).
Those kind words, support and believe in me has always stayed in my heart. I admitted my mistake, apologized saying I agree that I could have definitely communicated with client in a better way. Aleks advised me how to proceed forward and gave few tips on how to be a better communicator and handle such situations.
To give extra detail on that complain case, I was quite busy at that particular time and send a very short message to that client as I wanted to reply to all tasks and get some completed as soon as possible. But when you don't put some effort on replies to client, it turns out sounding a bit rude.
I've leant my lesson from that day, and promised Aleks such complain will never happened again. I'd like to say I've kept that promise to her as not even a single complain has been issued from client that my conversation was not to satisfaction in all these years. In fact I get many feedback from clients that they are very pleased with my communication with them. This is all thanks to Aleks and her approach with me on that day for that complain. I can definitely say that she has made me a better person in terms of communication with others. Now, whenever I feel overwhelmed by a situation, or need to deal with a difficult/unpleasant conversation, I always step-back, breath, and re-think what I will be saying/writing.
I am sure I am not the only one Aleks has helped to be better. I wish she will keep being herself and continue bringing other people around her the positive effect she has, "The Aleks Effect" she has.
